* This post was inspired from countless interactions I’ve had over the last few years with college kids who are getting nowhere with their training and missing out on lifetime memories in the process.
You’re living in The Age of Distraction and it’s killing your gains.
You’re suffering from information overload, which has led to the destruction of your social life.
You’ve got to give up the over thinking and start living. You can’t be holed up in your dorm room overanalyzing every aspect of your training and diet all day long.
There are girls outside and if you play your cards right they might let you touch them.
Pick a goal, train hard, eat right then go have fun and live a little.
If your goal is to get to the size of Lou Ferrigno and win the Crossfit games while worrying about every aspect of your training and diet, every second of the day you’ll get nowhere.
Some people are lucky mofo’s and have amazing Adrian Peterson type genetics. They can do whatever they want and they will be big, strong, fast and ripped.
Others are just genetically fucked and there’s nothing you can do to change that but stop stressing. Train as hard as you can, eat properly and get eight hours of sleep a night.
Stop thinking that an even more Spartan level of dedication is going to transform you into Mr. Olympia. It’s not.
If you’re in college and don’t drink at all that’s not discipline, it’s stupid and anti-social. In fact I demand that every college student (non athlete) reading this site drinks every damn weekend of the year. That’s it! I will not hear otherwise.
I’m joking, of course, but you get the point hopefully.
College is about going out, having fun and getting laid. What kind of stories and memories are you going to have in 10-20 years if all you do is sit in your dorm room and count grams of protein while swearing off alcohol and the opposite sex?
Hockey players drink almost every night. And a lot of them are big, strong dudes. Do you honestly think that at 21 years old you can’t recover from drinking every Friday night? Sure you can.
If you’re training for the Olympics or you have a shot at the NFL then I truly and honestly get it. Good for you. I admire the dedication and am envious of your future. College athletes should be dedicated during the season.
But if you’re not an athlete and are giving up your entire social life for the small chance that you will gain an extra 2-3 pounds of muscle per year you need to reevaluate your decision making process.
Don’t get caught up in over-obsessing about your health. The things guys in their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and beyond have to worry about shouldn’t be of a major concern to you yet. You’ll be able to tolerate inflammatory and acid producing foods better than we can. If your digestive health is already ruined at 20 years old you need to find your parents and have a serious sit down.
The stress that all you dudes put on yourself is probably the number one reason you can’t gain size or get wood.
Train hard, eat right, but have some fucking fun while you’re at it.
