Matt McGorry of “How To Get Away With Murder.” TV Star With A 576 Pound Deadlift

Posted by Jason Ferruggia

Matt-McGorryBefore he appeared on the Netflix hit series, Orange is the New Black, or ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder… And certainly well before he ever stepped on the Oscars red carpet, Matt McGorry was a respected fitness trainer in New York City. He competed in powerlifting, with a best deadlift of 576 at 198 pounds, and got completely shredded for a bodybuilding contest.

At the age of 28, Matt has hustled and worked his way to great success in two different industries. That’s something anyone can respect.

I’ve had known Matt for a while but hadn’t talked to him in a couple years. It was great to have him on the podcast to talk training, acting and life.

Today’s Podcast Topics Include:

  • Did Matt ever consider “giving up” on acting?
  • The breakthrough moment that took him from trainer to celebrity
  • How to set a goal to ensure success
  • The importance of ignoring what everyone else is doing
  • Lessons from the gym that Matt applies to work and the rest of his life
  • A daily ritual that Matt will never miss
  • Matt’s experiment with the Sheiko squat program, and what you can learn from it
  • How not to let texts, emails and social notifications ruin your life
  • One book everyone should read
  • If he could only do one exercise forever, what would it be?
  • Matt’s definition of success
