Actually soy IS a phytoestrogen that can mess with men's hormone levels. It is not an idiotic claim. This is because the are isolates. Fermented miso or whole soy products are much healthier and are staples in Asian culture where it is used as a health food.

Good to hear different insight Chris. Eating is just like technology changes, some days. Don't keep up with it and a guy falls way behind. Controlling blood sugar/insulin and that stuff is still fairly new to me and I'm trying things I never would have done 3 years ago. High fructose corn syrup is another thing. Man, it's like having 3 fulltime jobs now. Family, work and personal health.

Jason. What is your take on Booster Juice products. I don't know if there are Booster Juice franchises in the US or not. Someone said they are just full of sugar, but I haven't looked into it. Also, what do you know about wheatgrass? It is a Booster Juice staple.

Great article,
. Like Hypocrites said, "Let food by thy medicine and medicine be thy food.
Other great protein sources are as follows,
Spirulina (consists of 65-71 percent protein) see David Wolfe book "Superfoods", it contains all eight essential amino acids and 18 total amino acids, rich in vitamins A, B,B6. Make sure its organic and raw!
Hemp protein make sure its Raw and Organic
Sun Warrior Protein its a tasty powder high in protein and its Raw
Natures First Law - Raw Power Original Protein Superfood
These are all great organic and raw proteins worth checking out.

I know what Mac means by foods affecting the body, we depend on so many medicines for everything when we can get most of the answers from the foods we put in our bodies.
Congratulations on your win at UFC 109 Relentless!!!

Personally, It's not so much that I "think" my insulin levels spike, but that I know they do. When my blood glucose monitor shows 132 after eating more 30 carbs at one sitting of ANYTHING, that's how I know. Everyone's body isn't the same and reacts differently. The glycemic index isn't the end all be all of blood sugar control for me, it may be for some people. It only measures the effect of glucose and not fructose on blood sugar. That's why potatoes are higher than regular table sugar but table sugar raises mine more than anything. Again I say, to each their own.......

That's a Ton of Excellent Ideas. A Rice Cooker can whip up a batch of quinoa pretty easily. 1/2 cup of Quinoa, 1 cup of water, flip the switch. Power Food at its finest...

I experimented with a more green and less meat based diet for 4 weeks. I lost about 10 pounds, mostly fat, and still managed to get stronger. I am not sure why I stopped, but I am going to commit to it moreso this year. I am not sure why anyone would think they would insulin spike with the foods he has listed as they would seem to be low glycemic? I have had to change my diet to some of the same foods and had to monitor my blood glucose because I am type-2 diabetic and I my readings were in the acceptable range. Mind you, at his level of activity, he is on a good burn, most of the time. Eat to suit the needs, I suppose.

Some great info there. Just goes to show that being strong, muscular, lean & healthy can be done without animal protein.

Whilst I haven't (yet) cut out all animal protein (1-3 feedings a week that's all though) I continue to get stronger, slowly adding muscle (naturally) and feel healthier every day.

My digestive system is thanking me for this change.

Cheers Jay and Mac
