I follow Stronglifts for weight training, at 48 it keeps my back and body strong. I was 145 lb 5'10" skinny with a little potbelly when I was about 30, and I did the GOMAD diet. I put on 20 lbs that year, mostly in muscle. Now I still weigh 165 & better built. GOMAD is Gallon Of Milk A Day. Simple and it works. You don't hear about it much because no profit for supplement company's, but it works as well as any mass builder. In fact, most of them are dairy based. Drink whole milk, spread it out however you like during the day. Chocolate milk is okay too. I have a friend wo did it with a quart of cream a day, if you can handle that. Check out Stronglifts, too. I get nothing for recommending it, just find it simple and honest for regular people. Good luck to you. The important thing is you care enough to improve yourself, that alone puts you in the top 10%.

I always read about losing fat and building muscle, but my problem is gaining weight to then build muscle.
i've tried shakes and even stopped jogging altogether to see if my metabolism would slow down enough for weight gain but to no avail...what would you think would be my best choice?I've always been between 125-140 lbs for over 25 years now,i stand 5 ft 7 in.
Any advice?
