Jen red Never Thought Id See The DayWhat a difference five years makes. I go out to bars about three times per year instead of three times per week. I hate staying up late and drinking these days, preferring instead to stay home, read a book and be in bed by 10:30. I’ll hardly touch a piece of food that isn’t organic or 100% natural. I’ve gotten rid of my microwave and toxic pots, pans and food storage containers. I only drink the purest water I can out of Sigg bottles, and even have a filter on my shower head. I threw out all my regular sun screens and soaps and whatever other harmful crap I had in the house. Basically, I’m an absolute health nut like the bodybuilders and strongmen of the early 1900’s. I know it sounds crazy to associate bodybuilders with health but that was actually the case way back when.

My life has changed drastically in the last few years with all of the above paling in comparison to the biggest change.

But to explain what I’m talking about let’s start back even further…

After college my obsession with strength training and fitness was growing at an astronomical rate. So much so that… …continue reading.

Michael Jordan How to End Anabolic Slow DownI got back late Tuesday night from an awesome four day trip to Chicago (the home of my two favorite athletes of all time, Michael Jordan and Walter Payton). For those who have never been I highly recommend going to the Windy City during the summer months. It’s definitely one of my favorite places. Although I wouldn’t want to visit in the winter.

We hit North Street and Oak Street Beaches, where strangely you are only allowed to swim out til the waters at mid chest level and then some guys in row boats stop you. Weird.

We caught a Cubs game at Wrigley on Sunday where I got to see four former Yankees playing (Soriano, Abreu, Matsui, Nady) and actually witnessed a Cubbies blowout victory. An afternoon at Wrigley is a must have experience for any true sports fan.

Then we went up to the top of the Sears Tower (now known as the Willis Tower, unfortunately), ate at some good restaurants (an underrated but great little spot that had fresh, organic food was Big Bowl around Rush & Division), hit some good bars (I especially liked the area around North/Damen) and saw as much of the city as… …continue reading.

football bis Summer Football TrainingLong before I kinda “went mainstream” and had the Hardgainer column every month in Men’s Fitness and became known for my ability to help skinny guys get bigger and stronger there was a smaller, hardcore audience that knew me only as the guy who trained football players and combat athletes in a dungeon gym in New Jersey.

As much as I love getting guys bigger and stronger, when you throw in the element of speed, conditioning and overall improved athleticism I get REALLY excited. That’s my true passion.

If I could only train one type of client it would undoubtedly be football players. Combat athletes would be a close second but football is and always has been my favorite sport. I’ve been a die hard New York Giant’s fan since I was in diapers and I grew up idolizing Walter Payton. You always hear me talking about hill sprints and how they are one of the greatest things you can possibly do. Well, who do you think got me started on hill sprints in the first place? Sweetness, himself.

With football season just around the corner I’ve been getting a ton of email questions lately about training for the gridiron,… …continue reading.

oly cfrancis 200 RIP Charlie FrancisI’ve been out of the loop the last few days due to some work issues and didn’t hear the very sad news until just now that the great Olympic speed coach, Charlie Francis had lost his battle with cancer and died at the age of 61 last week.

Unfortunately, many uneducated people and those in the mainstream will always associate Charlie with Ben Johnson getting popped for steroids at the ’88 Olympics in Seoul. Those in the know understand that every athlete in that race was on performance enhancing drugs and that Ben getting caught took nothing away from Charlie’s skills as a coach. The full story is detailed in Charlie’s book, Speed Trap and Ben Johnson’s side of the story can be heard in the great documentary Bigger, Stronger, Faster.

Charlie was, in my opinion, the greatest speed coach that ever lived and was a huge influence on people like myself, Joe DeFranco, James Smith of Pitt, Sal Alosi of the New York Jets, and countless other coaches. If you know how to get athletes faster you most likely have Charlie to thank for that. If you don’t you should have been studying his methods. I owe much… …continue reading.

eminem 8 mile battle The Battles on TonightHey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I will be squaring off toe-to-toe, one-on-one, mano y mano with my buddy and fellow strength coach, Elliot Hulse tonight (Thursday 5/13/10) on a live muscle building teleseminar.

The big man knows his stuff when it comes to getting bigger and stronger and I always love discussing training with him and listening to what he has to say. He is a wealth of information who truly walks the walk.

BUT…

He called me out to battle.

Kind of like old school rappers used to do back in the day.

Like LL vs. Kool Moe Dee.

MC Shan vs. KRS One.

Nas vs. Jay Z…

Only, instead of spitting rhymes we’re gonna go back and forth dropping knowledge about the development of maximal size, strength and power.

As much as I like and respect Big E, a challenge is a challenge and I need to lay the smack down on his candy ass and let him know what’s up.

So be sure to join us live this tonight for the rumble by clicking HERE and registering for one of the remaining spots.

Unless you’re squeamish, that is.

Cuz it could… …continue reading.

jessica Regrets...As I stared at myself in the mirror while brushing my teeth this morning I wondered how I ever let my life get to the point where I knew who Justin Bieber was.

That’s information that I shouldn’t know. But over the last 48 hours I heard one of his songs and saw a picture of him for the first time.

And I regret this unfortunate development. I feel as though my manhood status has been taken down a notch. Which I really can’t afford.

While looking at my shabby excuse for a goatee I regretted never trying the idea I had a few years back of using Rogaine on my face. A 35 year old man should be able to grow a beard. In fact, I don’t even think you can be called a man if you can’t grow a beard. And sporting one should be mandatory. To have that ability and not capitalize on it is just spitting in the eye of fair faced punks like me.

I also regret not returning Jessica Biel’s text message when she and Jessica Alba invited me over to play poker not too long ago. I was busy setting a new high… …continue reading.

Triple Threat MuscleAs you may know, I suffered a pretty bad shoulder injury a while back that required surgery. This was the result of me being stupid in the gym. My high school teachers were right; I am a knucklehead, and I take full responsibility for my actions.

I went into the hospital weighing 227 pounds and after a few months of being laid up and unable to train I was down to 179!!! This was devastating to say the least. Friends were horrified by the site of me and thought there was something wrong with me.

Which, come to think of it, is no different than the reaction they have every time they see me, no matter what I weigh.

Because of my extreme hardgainer genetics I lose size quicker than anyone I’ve ever met. And if I didn’t know exactly how to train, eat and recover properly it would take me forever to build muscle.

Being that small, weak and skinny was very depressing. I had worked my whole life to get away from that look and that feeling. During my rehab I hated to even leave the house because I didn’t want people to see me. For the first… …continue reading.

3xm batch Triple Threat MuscleRecently a lot of friends have been asking where I’ve been. Regular readers have been asking why I haven’t been updating the site as much.

The reason will become clear this Monday when, after two years of hard work, trial and error and endless experimentation, I finally release Triple Threat Muscle. I haven’t come out with anything new since I released Muscle Gaining Secrets a few years back because I didn’t have anything this exciting to share.

Two years ago I decided to start experimenting on a large number of my clients and coaching group members. I wanted to see if I could create an athletic based muscle building system and help average guys get the same kind of results elite athletes get from their training. The only difference is the average guy doesn’t have the genetics, recovery ability or schedule of a professional athlete. But they all want to look like them.

So I took it upon myself to create the ultimate system that would help Average Joe’s and weekend warriors get a little bit closer to looking and performing like Reggie Bush or Georges St. Pierre.

I know how to help skinny guys get jacked.… …continue reading.
